Motif Leadership is grounded in experience—the experience of not having all the answers. We’re trained to fill in the blanks, and so we do. But it’s worth pausing over the blanks themselves. Ambiguity is daunting; certainty feels more comfortable. One foot in front of the other makes sense—until it doesn’t.

Over a career spanning teaching, management consulting, tech startups, and nonprofit leadership, I’ve seen firsthand how individuals and organizations get sidetracked. Everything is great until it isn’t. In environments where expectations are high, change is constant, and the next rung always appears just within reach, it’s easy to keep checking boxes. Decisions and indecisions get woven neatly into the stories we tell ourselves. Over time, the consequences of what isn’t chosen can compound as quietly as the choices that are. I’ve rewritten my own story more times than I can count.
